No race booked. Still training. That’s the whole point.

Coaching that starts with you, not a race date.

Every training app begins by asking what you’re racing and when. Attuna begins with what you’re actually doing this for. Then it tells you what’s worth doing today, for as long as you want to keep going.

The problem

Take the race date away and there’s nothing left.

The apps have got better. Most will now absorb a missed week, drop your volume, dial you back when you say you’re flat. Credit where it’s due: that part is largely solved.

What none of them do is start anywhere other than a race in your calendar. The plan is the thing that persists; you’re a set of inputs that adjust it. Which works fine for twelve weeks. Then you cross the line, or you never booked anything in the first place, and the whole apparatus has nothing left to say. That’s the bit nobody has fixed, and it’s the bit that decides whether you’re still doing this in five years.

Nothing in the calendar

You’re not training for anything right now

A plan-first app needs a date and a distance before it will say anything at all. So you pick a race you don’t really want, or you stop paying.

Attuna starts from why you do this in the first place. It keeps giving you the session that’s worth doing, with or without something in the diary.

Coming back

Three weeks off, and now what

The hardest part isn’t stopping. It’s where you rejoin. Most plans drop you back exactly where you left, which is the hardest week you’d reached.

Attuna rebuilds from what actually suits you now, not what you were doing before. If you’ve been given rehab work, that goes in first.

The honest conversation

The goal isn’t realistic any more

No subscription wants to tell you your target is gone. So you get a softer plan and a quietly worse prediction, and you find out on race day.

Attuna will tell you early, with the reasoning shown, and tell you what the day is for instead. Sometimes slowing down now is how you go faster later.

How it works

The person persists. The plan is disposable.

Four things it does. None of them need you to keep up with anything.

A recommendation every day, whether or not you say anythingIt runs on your training data. You never have to fill anything in, journal, or check a mood box for it to work.
Tell it onceBad knee, no pool access, training happens after bedtime. Say it once and every recommendation is filtered through it from then on. You shouldn’t have to keep reminding it.
Say more when you want toSlept badly, calf’s grumbling, week’s a write-off. Optional, always. The more it knows, the sharper it gets, but it never nags you for it.
Tune how it talks to youEncouraging, or blunt with no preamble. Full reasoning, or just the session. Your call, changeable any time.

What it isn’t

Four reasons people don’t get a coach. None of them apply here.

No race requiredYou never have to name a goal event. If you want one, it’ll help you pick one that fits your year. If you don’t, nothing breaks.
Leave without a conversationCancel in two taps. No exit call, no reason required, no awkwardness if you come back in eight months.
No level to qualify forThere’s no threshold of serious you have to clear first. Three hours a week and a vague plan to stay healthy is a completely valid place to start.
Nothing to keep up withNo streaks, no daily journal, no guilt screen. It works from your training data. Anything you add is a bonus, not a requirement.

A few quick questions. They’re how I work out whether this suits you.

Have you got a race in the calendar?
Have you ever thought about getting a coach and decided against it?

Tick everything that applies. If you’ve never considered one, say that.

Main sport right now
Carrying anything, or seeing a physio?
What do you currently pay for in your training?

Tick everything. Where your money already goes is the clearest signal of what you actually value, which is why I ask that instead of what you’d spend.

And where are you with that spending?

What made you click, what you’d want it to do, or where you think I’ve got this wrong. This is the box I read first.

Applying doesn’t commit you to anything. The eight weeks are free. If you want to carry on afterwards, I’ll ask you then.

What the eight weeks involve

The pilot is more hands-on than the finished thing will be. That’s deliberate, and it’s temporary.

Who’s behind this

Tor, Attuna’s founder, at the finish of the Busselton Festival of Triathlon

I’m Tor, an age-group triathlete in Perth with two young kids and a full-time job in IT.

My goals don’t solely rely on big race days any more. I’ve watched what happens to people afterwards, myself included, when the whole thing was built around one date and the slump of motivation once that date passes. I’d rather build sustainable healthy habits so that I can still be doing this at sixty. So what I needed was something that builds those habits even if there’s nothing in the calendar, and every plan I bought was the opposite of that.

So, I built the thing instead. It even accommodated my physio’s loading recommendations when my Achilles was flaring up. It knew my training happens after the kids go to bed. When the tank was empty it offered something shorter rather than the session I’d have skipped entirely.

It got me to the finish line in that photo. That’s one person, which is why I’m not claiming much yet. Twenty places, eight weeks, and I’d rather find out properly from twenty people than badly from three hundred.
